After the 26 August flash flood swept through Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading, thousands of families are trying to find someone — a relative, a trekking companion, a neighbor swept from a riverside home. With roads and bridges destroyed in the worst-hit areas, information often reaches rescuers slower than it should. This guide walks through exactly how to file a report that’s actually useful to searchers, not just a name on a list.
Step 1: Call official channels first , Missing Person in Rasuwa Flood
Before anything else, call Nepal Police at 100 (or 112 from a mobile). If the missing person is a foreign national, also contact your country’s embassy in Kathmandu, or Nepal’s Emergency Control Room for foreigners at +977-9744441227 / 9744441228. These channels feed directly into official search-and-rescue coordination.
Step 2: Gather the details that actually help identify someone

🏛️ प्रहरी डाटाबेसमा जानुहोस्Generic reports (“my brother is missing”) are hard to act on. The details that make a real difference are:
- A clear, recent photo — this is the single most useful piece of information for both rescue teams and hospitals processing unidentified survivors
- Last known location, as specific as possible (village, ward, riverside landmark) — not just “Rasuwa”
- Why they were there — pilgrimage, trekking, work, visiting family — this helps narrow the search area
- Distinguishing marks — birthmarks, tattoos, jewelry, scars, or what they were wearing. In flood disasters, these details matter more than people expect, since injuries and mud can make faces hard to recognize
- A working contact number for whoever reports it, so any match reaches someone immediately
Step 3: File the report in more than one place
Official hotlines are handling an extremely high volume of calls right now. A phone report alone can get lost in that volume. Filing the same information in a photo-based, searchable public registry adds a second, parallel path — one that rescue volunteers, hospitals, and other searching families can check directly, at any hour, without waiting on hold.
File a missing person report here → — it takes about 1 minutes and asks for exactly the details above.
Step 4: If you find someone — report that too
If you locate someone, alive or deceased, reporting it matters just as much as the original missing report — it’s often the only way a family stops searching in the wrong place. If found alive and needing urgent help, note whether the location has road access and whether a helicopter evacuation may be needed — this speeds up how quickly a rescue team can respond. If a body is recovered, note the exact location and any identifying details, then let officials or the family handle identification directly and privately.
A note on numbers
As of 29 August, official figures stand at 616 confirmed dead and 1,924 missing in Nepal, with 554 additional missing reported from the China side. These figures are being updated daily by Nepal Police and NDRRMA as search teams reach previously cut-off areas — expect them to keep shifting, in both directions, as people are found safe and others confirmed lost.
If you’re a family member waiting for news right now: it is normal for this process to feel unbearably slow. Filing a clear, detailed report — official and public — is genuinely one of the most useful things you can do while you wait.
